OsCommerce. Love it and hate it.

I’m in the final throes of finishing up my first OsCommerce site. I chunked as much of the presentational html tags, restyling with CSS, as I could without breaking the thing. It has an annoying momentary delay in displaying past the header in Internet Explorer (of course it’s just fine in Firefox)

At first I thought it was the FOUC phenomenon, but after re-reading that article, I’m reminded that’s a CSS @import rule dilemma. Must have something to do with the bazillion database calls that it makes.

I learned some tricks along the way and will be sharing those soon. I also found myself resorting to some nasty old 90’s markup. I felt dirty and ashamed. But did it an moved on.

What are some of your thoughts and experiences with OsCommerce?
