Movie Review: Firewall
Went on a spontaneous date with the wife last night and saw ‘Firewall’. You know, the new Harrison Ford thriller. We give it a thumbs up.
Harrison Ford never convinced me he was a geeky computer security specialist. Although he tries at the beginning of the flick when a hacker is trying a brute force invasion of the bank’s computer system. Ford mutters some computer lingo and his underling is impressed as they make it more difficult for the hacker.
The movie did a great job with suspense. Effective twists, turns and surprises are woven into the story as Jack Stanfield (Ford) battles the technology and cunning of Bill Cox (Paul Bettany), who wants to steal $100 million dollars from the banks 10,000 wealthiest customers.
We’ve seen this type of film before. It’s reminescent of Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Where the criminals are smart, polite, technological wizards, who don’t mind killing you. Yet, always with a flaw that the hero eventually exlpoits.
The movie had it’s paid product placements, super-human fight scenes and unbelievable can-you-really-do-that? moments. Yet, the wife and I both walked out feeling we had been sufficiently entertained for our combined $17.00 admission.
I think though what I’ll ultimately remember from this movie is my question…Does it really rain that doggone much in Seattle?
