Quit Smoking Calculator

05-31-2006 | Comments Off

I’ve written a php script that calculates:

  • How long it has been since you quit smoking (in days, hours, minutes and seconds).
  • How many cigarettes you have not smoked during that time.
  • How much money you’ve saved since quitting.

I quit smoking on July 15, 2004. The numbers calculated by the Quit Smoking Calculator are amazing.

If your a smoker, former smoker or know someone who is, click over and try it out.

My Drooling Dog

my dog daisy drooling
I’ve had dog’s all my life. Never. Ever. Have I had one like my freak dog ‘Daisy’. I call her a freak, because she is so skittish and well…freaky. There is no telling what will make her tuck tail and run, but she does it often.

Dog Drool is slippery

She will quietly watch you eat. If you look at her real quick, she will turn her head and act like she wasn’t staring. The long 8″ strands of drool dripping out the sides of her mouth gives her away every time.

md5 Generator

I’ve just added a md5 hash generator to the PHP Toolbox.

I find the need to generate and insert an md5 string into the database lots of times during production of web applications. The md5 generator is a quick way to encrypt passwords for users already created.

If your new to md5 encryption with php, you can read more about it at php.net.

Cheap Web Design

The old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ is true in most all scenarios. Web site design included.

I shake my head when I see web design (developer / programmer / et al) classifieds on craigs list offering $8.00 - $10.00/hr. Or, the individual (or start-up) that is willing to fork out a whole $200.00 for a dynamic web site.

Am I A Perfectionist?

Maybe so. Or maybe I read too many books and blogs. I don’t think I ‘know-it-all’. Far from it. But, it aches to see fellow web designers dive into a new project with ‘mocking up a killer graphic design’ as their primary goal. If you haven’t really identified the needs of your intended audience, how do you really have a clue on your layout?

Simple Pleasures

some vegatables from our garden
Our garden continues to grow, and I see no end in sight to my amazement at it.

We’ve got hearty representatives of each of the different vegatables that we planted hanging on the vine.

It’s so doggone exciting!

Every evening I lead my wife out by the hand and we ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ over how well the garden is growing.

My daughter had some friends sleep over this weekend and I dragged them out to see. Even teenage girls recognize that tiny, baby peppers and tomatoes ‘are so cute.’
