I’ve just finished up a CSS article on two quick and easy ways to implement changing the background color over blocks of text when you run your mouse pointer over them.
One uses the CSS pseudo-class :hover.
The other one uses the DOM (Document Object Model).
I like the effect for that little extra visual zing.

Surfing the web tonight I found a few bookmarkable things.
- Anytime I want a custom badge / button I can go to Adam Kalsey’s Button Maker
- A method for what seems to be one of the best image replacement techniques.
- A lesson I try to teach my daughters has come back to bite me. ‘Remember, whatever you write on the internet is going to be there a long time. So, choose your words and thoughts carefully so you don’t live to regret it.’ (read the last line of Snook’s post)
- If you are a web designer and have the desire and time to use your skills to help out a non-profit organization, Grassroots.org is looking for web designers. It’s a great way to help out and build your portfolio.

I’ve written a php script that calculates:
- How long it has been since you quit smoking (in days, hours, minutes and seconds).
- How many cigarettes you have not smoked during that time.
- How much money you’ve saved since quitting.
I quit smoking on July 15, 2004. The numbers calculated by the Quit Smoking Calculator are amazing.
If your a smoker, former smoker or know someone who is, click over and try it out.

I’ve had dog’s all my life. Never. Ever. Have I had one like my freak dog ‘Daisy’. I call her a freak, because she is so skittish and well…freaky. There is no telling what will make her tuck tail and run, but she does it often.
Dog Drool is slippery
She will quietly watch you eat. If you look at her real quick, she will turn her head and act like she wasn’t staring. The long 8″ strands of drool dripping out the sides of her mouth gives her away every time.

I’ve just added a md5 hash generator to the PHP Toolbox.
I find the need to generate and insert an md5 string into the database lots of times during production of web applications. The md5 generator is a quick way to encrypt passwords for users already created.
If your new to md5 encryption with php, you can read more about it at php.net.
